On June 28th, 4 members of The Blue Cell Technical Assistance Team mobilized and headed to North Sioux City South Dakota for a deployment to assist those affected by widespread severe storms with devastating flooding. The team will consist of a Liaison/PIO, Planning Section Chief, Logistics Section Chief, and Technical Specialist.
Since Thursday June 20th, eastern South Dakota has seen storms bringing historic rainfall into the Sioux City area. North Sioux City has received the brunt of the flooding with swollen rivers, flash flooding, homes lost, a BNSF railroad bridge collapsed into the Big Sioux River and more storms expected in the coming days.
The seasoned Blue Cell Team will assist with accurate and timely public information, maintain relationships between agencies collaborating on this disaster, planning both immediate and long term, information flow for the incident, develop Incident Action Plans and incident support needs that may include ordering resources, supplies, communications, incident personnel and more.
The Blue Cell LLC arrived 6/29/2024 and established the following objectives:
- Provide for the safety of personnel and public
- Continue infrastructure restoration
- Continue law enforcement control patrolling and create relief plan
- Assess donation and volunteer management
- Begin planning for debris management
- Provide timely and accurate information to the public/new media and other agencies
providing help.
The Blue Cell, now in its 16th year continues to bring a renewed focus to the understanding and application of the Incident Command System and its usage as a true System of Management thru in-person, virtual and hybrid training, and exercise missions, with high-profile Federal, Local, and Private Sector clients.
