This one-day workshop focuses on small unit incident leadership and decision making, individual recognition of leadership traits, introduces the concept of using a decision-making process to improve collaborative efficiency, and approaches to after action to increase organizational capabilities.

The foundation for this decision making course has been adapted from concepts within the Department of Defense, Special Operations Command and combines this process with present day doctrines from the Department of Homeland Security / Federal Emergency Management Agency and best business practices.

These concepts are consistent with and are contemporary to the National Incident Management System, the National Response Framework and National Recovery Framework.

Additional items that are explored include the basics of leadership, expectation and intent, understanding and evaluating the needs in a rapidly changing environment, and using quantitative tools. All of these ideas culminate in a better understanding and usage of a formal decision-making process and having the tools to be better prepared as a leader.

This decision making workshop is designed to present to those participants who have to deal with difficult and unfortunate situations to the knowledge of how to use a system to make decisions, take appropriate actions and how to cite doctrines that support actions and outcomes.

Objectives:

-The workshop participants will gain a greater understanding of the usage of a decision-making process and applying it in medium to high stress, unusual situations and incidents. 

-The workshop participants will work in teams and practice a collective approach to using a decision-making process with others.

-The Incident Leadership & Decision Making Workshops participants will apply best business practices and incorporate the usage of Specific, Measurable, Action Oriented, Realistic and Time Sensitive (S.M.A.R.T) objectives as part of a decision-making process.

-The workshop participants will organize and evaluate conclusions from the decision_ making models and translate those elements into leader's intent.

The workshop participants will use and understand the usage of additional leadership tools and job aids. Tools Used in the Workshop are The Blue Cell, LLC All Hazard Complexity Analysis, Leadership Journaling, The Decision-Making Process Model, Key Decision Logs, AAR Protocols and the importance of completing ICS 214 Unit Log.
